On board the Reunification Express

The 'Reunification Express' that runs the route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and back is no Orient Express, with its sparse beds and hole-in-the-floor loos. However, it does pass through some beautiful scenery on the way from Hue to Da Nang.

More info on the journey please Christian, a friend and I hope to travel this way in September this year. I take it the accomodation on board is not too good!

Dear Anonymous(!),

The accomodation is ok and you'll sleep as well as you can expect with the rickety-tap, rickety-tap of train wheels all night.

It's well worth taking the train for at least part of the journey down the coast. The view is great, it's comfortable enough and I heard some very negative tales from people that took the buses instead (theft from one person and one girl was hassled all night).
